My 2012 CC started making a "groaning" noise when Im turning the wheel to park. Not when moving so I don't believe it a CV joint. Could this be the upper strut mount bushing?

I need to replace an inner CV boot or the short shaft on a 96 Automatic Jetta. I've done them many times on a standard transmission with no problem. Can't remove the short shaft because the joint is too big for the hole. Looks like I need to drop the transmission to make room. Any suggestions?
