09G Transmission Problem

Hello everybody! I'm a recent owner of a 2007 VW Rabbit with 93,000 miles, which I bought for a nice price overall. I really like the car, but it is already costing me a fair amount of money. I'm wondering if the valve body transmission problem will eventually affect all rabbit owners? The mechanic I have been taking my car to recently says that every rabbit he knows ends up with the problem sooner or later by 140,000. Is that true? (Sounds a bit overstated to me). Is it just a defect that happens to some machines or a time bomb that will affect everyone? Anyone know what the odds may be? Considering getting rid of this thing, because I may not be able to ultimately afford it.
