I have a 1971 Super Beetle with a fresh air blower motor that has melted it's brush guides (they are plastic in part #113 959 113) and has made an unrepairable mess.
My question: Will a 1972 style upgraded (with metal guides) blower motor directly replace my older melted 1971 version?

Here's a photo of the melted carbon brush support mechanism in my '71 S-B fresh air blower motor. As I stated in first post, the '72's and newer had a different brush positioning system made of metal. And the motor is somewhat different in appearance...however this actual fan looks the same as does the mounting hole pattern. So I'm curious to know if I can find a newer motor what are my chances of it fitting? Am asking the correct forum for this type of information?
