I just had this problem on my 2006. The repair is going to take at least 20 hours of labor and at least another $800 in parts, if the motor can even be salvaged, after a oil pump bolt failed. VW headquarters refused to offer any kind of assistance since this happened at 68,000 miles.

I am ao disgusted with VW right now.

The mechanic also told me this is getting to be a regular problem with this model and even after the repair are seeing repeat instances of the same exact damage. Do yourself a favor if you have an 06' Passat, sell it for whatever someone will pay you and buy something else, anything else.

They make a lot of noise when it fails. If you continue to drive, the engine will be destroyed. It's A LOT of labor as i've done a few before under warranty. I'd call VW again and see what they say again.
