2009 Golf MK6 Doesn't Unlock

I'm having problems locking and unlocking my 2009 Golf MK6 with the buttons on the key fob. I have tried to do this manually by turning the key in the door, however it only locks the car and doesn't unlock it.
I'm just wondering if anyone might know what the issue is? I was thinking it could be the key fob or the door lock module but want to be certain.
