Hey guys,..

I just bought this car last month, the main reason i bought the car is for my wife and the baby (she is 11 week pregnant), so we can have decent german suv that has good safety and good looking. I really like the car, but the thing that i hate about this car is it make low vibration noise (or a humming noise) at between 1300-1500 rpm. When i drive the car steady at 30mph or 40mph or 50 mph with the 1300-1500 rpm the car produce that sound sometimes it gets louder. But when i drive it on sport mode the car didn't make that noise, because the car ussually stay at 2000 rpm and up.

I took it to the dealership 1 week i bought it, hey said its normal for tiguan because tiguan has 6 speed auto transmition and turbo engine thats why the car sift up early to get to the higher gear. I uderstand that, but why the noise to loud tho, for the car that so expensive at it class it should has better driving comfort then the other compatitor (crv,rav4, forester or cx5). I am so disapointed with this car, and this is the first time i jump from japanese to german car, but i got bad luck with this. I have 2 friends that willing to switch from japanese to german car because i bought this (they saw it really good on the outside and interior), but after what happened to me they kinda think twice to getting the GLI, and GTI.

I was just wondering anybody that has 2013 tiguan sel 4 motion out there that has the same problem with me? And if you guys have any solution about this i really apriciated.

Thank you for your respond

Just this month I too got my bride the Tiguan SE...I too have experienced this between shift range noise/vibration. I think it's the torque converter & it's really annoying. I'm bringing the car in for a 1 month check up later this week. I'll let you know what they say

Was in with the Tiguan for my 1 month check-up...asked about to noise/vibration between gears (1300-ish). They were not suprised, knew of the issue & apparently it's one of the few flaws with the car due to changes made on behalf of fuel economy. They indicated there is no fix coming out of VW.

I still like the car, but this is really something they'll need to address quickly. I don't think the typical buyer of this car will see it as a small performance issue.

I had same thing, when changing gear as revs dropped back down to 2000 down as "buzzing" was really annoying. came from right hand side when sat in car under bonnet.
Finally I found it! if you look at the left engine mount there are 2 silver pipes going past it for the aircon system. They have rubber rings on them but dont quite touch the surrounding metal work. I put a cable tie on top one around to tightened it to the main engine mount and a second one around both the aircon pipes. Noise gone, I guess at a certain resonance they bounce against frame which it why you only get it in a certain rev range.

Here you go (sorry but not been on site) it went away, (see black cable ties on the air con pipes) but I also put a cable tie on the fuel pipe as there are 2 pipes and both same cheap plastic plastic tube they sit in and may be rattling (strange but it goes away under 10 degrees C. However it has started buzzing again! so I am currently trying without the cable tie on the fuel pipe to see what happens, next is to shove some foam down the inside the tube that holds the fuel pie, I am sure its a bit of plastic resonating and its a trial and error. Will let you know if i solve it! Aghh how to put a damn picture in without a URL??? seems to damn difficult lol

All quiet now, no buzzing, its bliss. So its either the ties on the aircon pipes stopping it or pressing the fuel pipe one click further into its little plastic housing which stops the pipe resonating against the long tube it runs into or under the car somewhere. Hope it works for you

I see this is an older thread. But just purchased a 2012 Tiguan and similar growling/vibrating noise at lower revs especially when coming down the gears. It was actually the air filter housing vibrating. Had another person press down on air filter housing whilst I sat in car and got the car to make the sound in neutral and handbrake on-there was a sweet spot on accelerator when it would make the growl. As the other person pressed down on air filter housing the noise stopped. Cable tie around pipe joint and piece of foam wedged between filter housing and bonnet/hood trim cured it. Runs as quite as a mouse now. Worth a try if you have a similar problem.

I just started having the same problem, i have a 2012 Tiguan and it’s making a growling sound when idle and when pressing the gas. Don’t know where the air filter housing is to try this.
