Got my 65 Bug home a week ago and discovered something strange. What I thought was a 65 is actually a 64 but it has the larger windshield and windows. The VIN says it was built in Germany in Aug. of 64. I'm no expert but I have had a few older Bugs, the newest was a 69. Most were 65 - 68 and I have never seen this before.

Does anyone have an explanation. American cars of that era had the new models come out in Aug. or Sept. of the preceding year (ie, 65 Chevies came out in Sept. of 64)

TIA

Vw's produced up to july 64 were 64 productions. From August of 64 and on, it was a 65 edition. You have one of the first 65's made.
