Hi, new here and not got a clue if I’ve set up a thread right and can’t find no other information that will help as this is a pretty odd one! So cut a long story short I had the usual cave issues and the weak pistons lead to high oil consumption, I had the engine rebuilt (pistons and rings) by a VW specialist and also had the timing re-done while it was there. Before the car went in I had an intermittent p0016 code flag up handful(4/5) of times over 5/6 of months of ownership but the timing chain seemed fine. Engine was rebuilt and the code was still flagging up every so often, but has now become more often then it used to be, the timing had been redone so I ruled out a stretched chain, replaced camshaft sensor and it’s still doing it, so I’ve had it up at the garage and plugged into vcds to check it out more and check timing, ‘camshaft adjustment intake bank 1 specified value 21.000°’ and ‘camshaft adjustment intake bank 1 actual value 21.000°’ which is correct. However further down looking at ‘camshaft adaptation intake bank 1 phase position -706.84°’ now I get if I was looking at a high mileage engine suspecting an issue to the chain that phase value would be showing along the lines of -4 to -7 or something, but -706.84°, this figure seems really unrealistic, and left both me and the mechanic scratching our heads, the car runs and starts completely fine and has covered over 2k miles since the rebuild. No visible issues as to out of time. Has anyone ever come across this or have any input as to what may be going on, cheers.
