82 Diesel one owner

Greetings everyone. I am a Rabbit owner "incognito"....well, at least for the past 36 years anyway. Bought my 82 new, and put 160,000 on it prior to the engine running away (insert joke here)
That happened in 1996, and I put it in my shed. In 1999, I put it in my new heated garage, and it's been there hibernating ever since. I have started it up once or twice in that time, but never drove it. Today, as I approach retirement, I am making plans to do an entire rebuild on the car, and put it back on the road..........for the hell of it!
Who can throw me some advice, recommend vendors for anything and everything between the two bumpers? Quality re-builders close to Ohio for the engine, or for that matter, a trade up to a 1.9 turbo?

Bought new, I remember that, back in 80 when I bought my 81.... Runaway had that happen to me twice, once on a Hobart Generator that was plugged in to a Helicopter I was working on,,,,, that was Scary...and a mad scramble to get it unplugged and driven away prior to it blowing up. Then once when I was driving in the hills and I thought it was resonance from a Truck....but that was before I new better... @ 145K I lost a timing belt, and it put the pistons through the head. Bought another 81 for 500 and swapped the engine (it had 150K on it). I drove it for the next 170K+ miles before selling it in 2000...

Welcome to the Forum, can't help the Ohio part but www.cabby-info.com has vendors listed, and I have had good luck with mk1Autohaus on ebay as well as a few others for OEM or near OEM quality of new parts. Giles makes a rebuilt IP that is second to none, and a good Diesel Injection pump rebuilder in your area is probably common as the Bosch IP is a quite common part amongst Dieseler's.

Sorry that I didn't see this post earlier, but I have had Deaths in the Family that took me out of state and out of internet reach... yep, there are places that don't have cell's or interweb I think it was Nirvana.

PS I took moderation off, so post away.... Pictures are always nice, and IMGUR is more web friendly and cheaper to host Photos.

WELCOME.
Don't know if you still need this but here is a site for a VW Diesel only shop in Ohio. I had Jack rebuild one for me. They are fast, high quality and reasonable priced. They also communicate regularly with you to keep you informed of the status of your build. vwdieselparts.com
