The GTI fronts do not clear 15" wheels. The rears however are fine.
Have you actually tried putting a 15" steelie on the rear of a GTI?

According to Hans, a 15" steelie does not clear the rear GTI brakes on a Rabbit... I'm assuming, if trying to figure out why the 288mm vented rotor would clear a 15" steelie on the front of a rabbit, but a 286mm non vented rotor from a GTI wouldn't clear a 15" steelie on the rear of the rabbit. Different caliper/carrier on the fronts vs. the rears due to rotor thickness (vented vs. non vented). Maybe the rear caliper is closer to the face of the wheel in the rear than in the fronts because it is being pushed out from the center of the hub due to a larger diameter rotor?

i know this is an old thread, but something just doesn't make sense to me. The front rotors are 288mm. The rear GTI rotors are 286mm, why won't they clear the 15" steelies?
Comparing vented vs. non vented discs. Different caliper, etc... I suspect that there is less clearance designed for the rear brakes on the rabbit because it is a non-vented rotor.

It doesn't look like you used a jack stand. You may want to consider it. Cars are very heavy when they land on you and jacks do seep or fail.
This is true, but he wasn't lifting from the frame, he was lifting from the rear control arm.

The 15 inch factory steelie will not clear the GTI rear brakes. It almost looks like it will but it catches on the caliper.
Good to know

The GTI rears are the same size as the Rabbit fronts, so I don't think fitting a 15" steelie on there should be a problem. Though we'll let Hans test it out for us :)

where do you get the rear gti carriers?
ECS sells a kit that includes the carriers and rotors. Otherwise you'd have to get them from someone upgrading their GTI. They are pretty pricey purchased separately.
