If you get it checked out I think it will be more trustworthy.
DSG gearbox electrical fault
Just recently, my DSG auto gearbox has started losing power. I pull in, turn off the ignition and restart after a minute and things go back to normal meaning that it is probably a software problem. The last time a spanner icon has appeared in the gear display. Do I just get it checked out with a garage with a diagnostic plugin?

Do you mean checked out by a garage/mechanic with the correct diagnostic tool?If you get it checked out I think it will be more trustworthy.
You need to get the car scaned with a VAG scanner (the socket is under dashboard on the drivers side), pure guess-work otherwise. I take it it's a DSG 7 speed dry clutch, if so you need to get the gearbox oil changed (if that's not already been done under the VW campaign)
