Exhaust Tips???

1873 Views 9 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  seanrose1976
Hey everyone! I recently purchased my 2013 Mk6 Golf TDi and I was wondering if anyone could give some advice on how to get the exhaust to sound any louder. It has a custom exhaust on it but I’m wondering if anyone has done anything with glasspack mufflers and if so how you liked the sound? Also welcome any other suggestions that wouldn’t mess with my emissions/diesel system warranty :))

Why on earth would you want to take a part of the engine that is already designed to make a loud noise quiet and defeat it's purpose. If you really want noise just undo some clamps under the car and wiggle the pipe enough to get it to leak.

Seriously, when you get to be in your fifties you will look back at all the droning you endured while driving and wish you didn't do that. OH, then you will insert your hearing aid.
okay once again “I do NOT want to mess with my warranty” ?? i’m asking for TIPS not someone to try and talk me out of it haha
Plus since it’s a diesel just simply “wiggling some pipes” isn’t going to make a difference. I have 2 Catalytic converters...
I might be mistaken but I am not sure you have two converters on there. One of those might be what is called a resonator. That gets rid of that low drone you get at highway speeds. Some folks delete that but doing so will likely void the warranty and you already stated that is no go for you.

I am not sure what you can do to replace the muffler with something that might sound a bit more sporty or manly. Maybe take it to a shop and have some put on and listen to them and decide that way. Like buying shoes, you really are going to have a time doing that.

I have 2.25 inch exhaust pipes with shop selected mufflers on them. One is a glass pack style and barely makes a sound but that is after the turbo so I didn't expect it to be loud at all. I prefer to be stealth when it comes to the sound of the car. I have a parking space that requires me to back into and I don't need to advertise to all that live around me that I have finally come home.

What the HEY???? Can you explain what is going on with all that white goop on those stainless pipes? Does it actually stick out the hood? Are you getting cool air off the windshield? You do know that is a hot spot not a cool one right?
Yes it sticks outside the hood... the white stuff is a high temp exhaust sealant I keep blowing the seals where it goes together someone suggested it so I'm trying it. When the car is all together you wont see any of that because I have it wrapped. As far as hot spot I'm not sure what you mean. It's just a 44mm TIAL wastegate

OK I see the blue intake pipe now and the thermal blanket on the firewall. Still don't understand why you would have a pipe up and out there like that. The purpose is???? Throw unburnt diesel on the windshield so you can wipe it around with the wipers? Just looks like a sloppy idea to me.
