Hey guys brand new to the forum, I have a 2008 golf City which I believe is a restyled mk4 golf that was "winterized" and sold to the Canadian market. The car has 138 000 km on it and im having a strange issue. The driver side door lock will randomly decide it doesnt want to lock when using the fob, it will unlock every time with the fob, and locking it with the key in the key hole works just fine 100% of the time. It seems to lock more often (with the fob) when the weather is hotter and humid, but this being Canada those conditions dont happen 8 months of the year. Any quick fixes?

Seems nothing about electrical is quick on vw....check the wiring in the driver door hinge boot by pulling back the boot and checking for broken wires making intermittent contact and splice in new wire ,or get harness from wreckers or new and install. If everything seems OK there you probably have an issue with microswitch or solder joints in door latch assembly......need some specialty tools for this as you need to remove glass and inner door lining and frame. Have replaced just the microswitches and resoldered myself before but otherwise you will need the whole latch assembly.

Actually, It was a face-lifted version of the original Golf MK1 hatchback...
It never went any farther than MK1 platform, they just kept updating it
all thbe way up to 2009. They announced it would be an MK4 platform in
2010, but it was discontinued.

Throughout the Citi Golf's 25-year lifespan, hundreds of small and large
mechanical modifications were also made, but it never progressed passed
the MK1 platform.

2006 was a major body kit upgrade.

They didn't get fuel injection till 2008.

The golf "citi" and the golf "city" are different cars, the citi golf was as you said a face lifted mk1 golf produced in south Africa, I did some digging and am able to confirm the city golf was only sold in Canada, and was a revised version of the mk4 golf built in brazil, mexico and china, mine being built in brazil!

Huh, and I thought he spelled it wrong, heh heh.

Okay, so yeah, revised versions of the Mk4 were sold in Canada marketed as
the Golf City and Jetta City from 2007 to 2010. The European MK4 variant ceased
at the end of the 2003 model year then the U.S MK4 version ended in 2006.

At least they were not left-overs, they were production cars, though older platform...

The MK5s were called GOLF in Canada, not City, so that's a change-up...

The MK5s were called Rabbits in Canada (just like the US). The City Golf was available up to and including 2006.

Regarding the door lock issues, sounds like the door latch issue. Maybe this thread will help: http://volkswagenownersclub.com/vw/showthread.php/98762-07-Rabbit-weird-door-lock-issues?highlight=rabbit+weird+door+lock+issues. A VCDS/VAG-COM scan will identify if this is the issue.
