Heating system

Is there some resource that shows how the whole heating system is supposed to work? Came across info that seemed to say that the right hand heater lever controls both heater box flaps. What does the left hand lever do? I get heat in the rear but don’t think anything is moving forward. No appreciable heat coming out at the windshield. Thanks in advance.
