Locking mechanism

My daughters 2013 Jettas lock is not working. When she hits the remote it doesnt open. She said it gets stuck in the frame latch. Today she used a screwdriver to open the door. I did ask if she used the key to manually open she stated it didnt work. Can anyone give me any ideas b4 I send her to the dealership?
