hey kitty, i know you were on fks but how low were you when that happened?
this low.

i believe 6 threads left in the front, 9 in the back. i had them bottomed out in the front but had to bring it back up because it rubbed like crazy, fenders were going to be rolled, but never got around to it.

Question... how do you even turn the car?

They're expensive... and from what I understand not exactly for performance... but you can check the performance vw magazine... lots of air suspended rides.

I looked into bags this past winter. If you know what parts you need, you can look around on ebay or vortex for the parts used. If you're patient and check often, you can find some really good deals. If you take your time and get the parts used, and do your own install, you can get away with it for around $1,500.

If you buy new and want a basic system with install, you're looking somewhere between $2,500 and $3,000.

If you want a full feature system then expect anywhere from $3,500-$4,000.

Bags aren't really a suspension you can drive aggressively on.

This is a really good deal if you're serious about it: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4395830&page=1

You just need to get a front set up... which he is selling in another post.

If you want to get familiar with different set ups, I suggest reading through here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=1055

This is a build thread someone did and gives you a good idea of what goes into it, read through the whole thread... it's one of the more thorough I've seen.

well, when it was lower than that (coils bottomed out in the front, about a half inch lower) it was hard. still managed to drive it that way for a few weeks, even took a trip to jersey and one to cape cod, lol. but it rubbed like crazy on turns. at that height pictured above there was very little rubbing, only on uneven ground, like backing out of a parking spot in a lot that's on an angle or something, the slight angle would cause the weight of the car to shift slightly and the side on the lower end would rub. i drove it pretty much as seen above for about a year and a half though, even in snow, but that sure wasn't fun.

Did it ruin the wheel arch paint?

Hi guys, just to add to this topic. I know its years after. When i did my clients cars with coilovers I usually do a C-notch on the right side for the Drive shaft to have a little bit of play.

i used a 76mm or similar in size, whole saw and a grinder usually the tungsten ones are the best to cut through the chassis with ease.
I then remove the dreaded helper springs to allow for a slight lower adjustment and you can drive with your ride slammed at a show.

and remember to ate a piece of rounded steel and weld it back into the notch to reinforce it and apply some under coat back to it to protect against any rust and sihts.

same goed for a air suspension setup. Just to allow the car to sit level and have good clearance for the shafts.
Hope this helps out someone in the future.

cheers
