We just bought a 2019 Golf ES last week and like you, I started looking at speaker option upgrades and can't seem to find out much at all, surprisingly.

Crutchfield helped me out a bit and evidently the front doors have 6-1/2" midrange/woofers and the rear doors have 5-1/4" drivers, while the component tweeters are mounted in the A-pillars. I have a '15 Cherokee Trailhawk and swapped all six speakers in three hours and they are a serious improvement, but from what I've found so far, the Golf isn't nearly as simple.

I need to research this more and get it figured out.

Hi, I want to upgrade my golf mk5 speakers, it is 3 door version too. I have no idea which speakers to buy so I am wondering if you have any recommendations or advices? Which speakers did you get and how is the sound? I am not looking for anything extra or window braking bass, but i want nice bass loud speakers and basically good clean lout sound (if that makes any sense lol)
Thank you very much.
I haven't done much since my previous post, except that I looked at what is present and see there are tweeters in the 'A' pillars and in the rear doors on our Golf SE.

From experience with our Cherokee, I went with six Rockford Fosgate speakers and added an Alpine 45W, 4-channel amp (dash speakers connected in parallel with the front doors on the Jeep). The bass is good and not too much, while the sound is full and clean. The speakers I chose are all 4-ohm and with Crutchfield adapters (free).

When researching speakers, I looked at JL, RF (chose them), JBL, Kenwood and Polk. You likely can't go wrong and the prices are not as high as you may expect (JL are more money). Whatever you do, I would stay with one brand for optimum soundstage. Go to crutchfield.com and research it there.

Good luck.
