New to forum, Torque converter won't seat

Replacing the engine on my gf 2010 jetta 2.5 with the 09G auto trans. I split the transmission and the engine without removing the flywheel nuts so the torque converter stayed on the engine. Now I am trying to get the torque converter back into the transmission so I can might it to the new engine but it doesn't seem to want to go on.
I can keep it centric and rotate but it won't seat, tried ripping the transmission but still no luck
