How's it going everyone! I just got a 2007 VW Rabbit and am loving every minute in it! It is bone stock except for the K&N Air Filter it came with. It also came with magny cours alloys, which aren't too shabby.
I have a few questions for you rabbit owners out there.
First: How would I go about lowering it 1.5 inches maybe 2"? Do i need a whole need suspension system? like shocks, springs, struts? What are coils? Sorry in advance, I'm new to the VW world. Owned a Ford Ranger that was a hand-me-down that was almost as old as me! 20 years old (antique!) haha. So this is a big upgrade. So all I want to know is the whole lowering prices and brands to go with.
ALSO, what is this car's limit on how big or wide a rim can be? in the future I hope to invest in BBS rims but for now I will keep the stock alloys. and will lowering this car 1.5 inches or 2" cause rubbing with the stock tire?

Thanks again in advance. I look forward to hearing from you guys!
Here's a couple pictures of my new vw :)

Welcome.

If you want to lower the car you will have to replace suspension components in order to do so. There are several ways of doing so, the most basic is by replacing the stock springs with sport springs which will give you around a 1" drop. The next step would be a cup kit which replaces your shocks/struts and springs. You can get a 1" to 2" drop with that. The third option is to install coilovers. These are a shocks/struts and coils that are combined in one system which allows you to lower/raise the car manually with the help of a tool. This option will allow over 2" drop The fourth option, and most expensive, is to install a air bag suspension.

For springs only look at Eibach or H&R. Those companies also offer cup kits and coil over systems. The least expensive coil overs are going to be from Raceland and you can check out FKs also.

This shoul give you a good start.
The stock wheels will be fine and will not rub when lowered. There are plenty of people here lowered significantly with wider wheel setups that the stock 205/55-16 that you have.
