Hi I’m getting a slight noise when pushing the clutch in 1st gear and sometimes 2nd gear, anyone have an idea what this could be? It’s coming directly under the gear stick( manual 6 speed) clutch does feel slightly soft as well.

1st check any loaded springs or the rods attached to the gear stick going to tranny are fully intact and has no tentions in them! I have a feeling something is not intact below there! Cant say much further than that for now till you inspect the 1st step firstt!

That’s really good to know because I’m really want to learn how to fix things on my own car, plus I’m having my intake cam replaced very soon as my lobe is worn.
Really appreciate the help.

I’ve been searching for a intake cam replacement kit, I’ve found some in the USA but not many in Canada, do you know if a good OEM parts supplier in Canada.
I’ve found Germanoem, they seem fairly good.

Indeed repairing your own vehicles saves you bunch of bucks as long as you know what you are jumping into. I usually shop around online before making my final order. I start with ECS Tunning, then carry onto Urotunning, RockAuto.com, then Canadian sites germanparts.ca, Autoshack.ca, Ebay and then lastly Amazon.

ECS tunning I’ve spoken to, what are the import charges like from the states? The states seem to have all the best deals when it comes to parts for my car.

Indeed they do have the best parts infact for all the VW...Shipping is expensive but I like the KITS and Packages they give in states its cheaper to buy from there regardless of $80 Shipping

Find the knocking noise when changing gear it was the end of the gear linkage the plastic had broke, changed for a new one easy job and working perfectly. Pic of the old one.

Got my the car up and running and she now purs beautifully, doesn’t sound like diesel anymore, no hesitations and idles perfectly, I highly recommend anyone to get this work done as you will have a very fun GTI to drive... had new intake cam, HPFP, gaskets, bolts, timing belt, all metal water pump, serpentine belt, spark plugs new filters, good quality oil, new disk and pads all round and sway bar links changed..
