Hi There,

I'm new to both this forum and to owning a GTi. I've purchased a 2009 Mk6 GTi as a Japanese import. So far I'm absolutely loving it! Being a Japanese import I Don't really know much about the history of the car at all unfortunately but I can see there are a number of modification that have been made after market.

- Badgeless Grill
- New Mags
- Bilstein Shocks

... and a "Sprint Booster Power Converter" (Version 2 - sprintboostersales.com). Does anyone know about these units? I think understand the principal but I guess what I really want to know is if its worth using? Seems to me that Sport mode does the job any way. Does anyone have any experience using this thing? It all seems a bit gimmicky.

Cheers

The sprint booster thing hooks up to your fuel pedal harness, it changes how
fast the throttle plate opens and responds. It does NOT add power or torque,
it just changes response time. I would never waste my time with something like
that for what they charge for them, and what it does.

The other stuff, common mods, look around...

Other mods

I'm still coming to grips with all this car stuff. Not really a petrol head but I am enjoying my introduction.

So I've discovered something else that has been fitted to the car. It is a "TM Works Ignite VSD Alpha 16V". Apparently it boosts the ignition coil voltage from 12 volts to 16. I'm not sure it that would really give a noticeable difference to performance but given that it is fitted does that mean there would have to be custom coils in there too? Would the aditional voltage not potentially burn out the coils and or the spark plugs? Is this going to be a maintenance issue for me?

Re: Other mods

There are a few reasons to add the VSD:

When other items are on, pulling current, this would help keep the
coils running at peak efficiency, with less current, having more voltage.

Is it good for the coil packs? Not sure, they say it makes the spark hotter
as well, but you have to be careful with that, you don't want to burn the
tops of the pistons, BUT, if it has been in there this long....

It is a Japanese made device... The way they explain it, well, their
English isn't good, and some of it just sounds stupid.

Well, good luck with any of that....

I saw a video of that, and the voltage still bounced around a LOT, but
stayed above 12. Still, when charging, voltage can be as high as
14.7, so you'd have to measure voltage to the coils with and without
it hooked up.
