Hello all. Newbie here, forgive me!

I have a 2015 Touareg 262. Every couple of months the coolant light comes on. The coolant level either falls below where it should be, or is well above the upper limit on the header tank after a run.

If I lift the hood once the engine has stopped, I can hear a bubbling (more accurately a berlopp!... blopp! type sound) from the engine. There is also the earthy smell of hot coolant after a run. And the fans often run on, even after a short run on cold days.

The engine has been pressure tested, without any apparent leaks.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? If there is air in the system, how is it getting there and how can the coolant be low to start with and then over-full after a short run?

Ideas or thoughts very much welcomed.
