Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and happy to be here!
Well, I decided to bite the bullet and keep the rabbit I bought recently. I was worried that I made a mistake after seeing how fast I had to start paying for repairs, and reading a bit too much about things like transmission problems (which I didn't notice as much before buying!), but I decided to stick it out. I want to try to track the price per mile of the car and see how long I can keep it and how low I can get the price per mile. I would like to see what kind of value I can get out of this used car, if any. I will not include gas, registration, and insurance. I will only include the price of the car and the repairs and how much I spent on them. I am trying to learn more DIY for the car, but I'm not there yet. I've done some basic things on my old Focus, but I have plenty to learn. I will try my best to turn the wrench as I learn to do things. When I bought the car a few weeks ago for $3,300 it had 93,283 miles on the clock. It currently has 93,308. I knew I would need to put a bit of money into it in the beginning to bring everything up to date, although the maintenance history on the car was pretty good. Not perfect, but pretty good. Runs beautifully. We have a 2013 Focus, and I already prefer driving this rabbit over it. The oil was changed pretty consistently at 5,000 miles, air filters changed, fuel filter, ignition coils, brake fluid, spark plugs twice, rotors replaced, induction system serviced, a couple of new tires replaced, drive belt, evaporative emissions vent purge valve, headlights replaced. I was a bit miffed when I found out that immediately I needed to put $1400 dollars into it, but decided to do it and try to ride things out.
So,$3300 +$1400 for automatic trans service, headlight bulb replacement, rebuilt vacuum pump with new gaskets, serpentine belt, oil and filter change with synthetic oil. (CV boot has a tear and brake pads are pretty worn. I will tackle this soon. I'm thinking maybe I can figure out how to do both).
Total Spent: $4700.00
Miles Driven: $25.00
Cost Per Mile: $188.00
