Just found out from my VW shop that the very slow, gradual coolant loss in my 2017 Golf Sportwagen is caused by a faulty seal on the water pump. Will be covered under extended warranty. The service guy said it is safe to drive, but I should just keep my eye on the temperature gauge if it starts to get high.

I'm wondering if it really is safe to drive, on an upcoming five-hour highway drive. Water pump replacement has been scheduled at the service shop, but it will be after my five-hour highway trip, because it's taking them a week or so to get the part. I have a bottle of VW coolant that I keep in my car just in case.

Based on anyone's experience, would you not make this drive (cancel the trip)? Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.
