Can anyone tell me what this thin wire is for? There’s a wire on both sides of the transmission on my 1973 super beetle. One side has the wire missing. My heater boxes were removed by the previous owner. Is this something left behind?

There should be one on each side of the transmission. They are the cables that open and close the air flow doors on the heat exchangers. I believe if you have a red knobbed handle next to the emergency brake, these wires are connected to the red handle.
