I just purchased a 2017 Passast SE/Tech package. I am not happy with the sound system and want to upgrade my speakers. Apparently, this car has 8 speakers, I can only find 6: 2 tweeters by windshield, 2 front door, 2 back door. I would think there would be 2 in the rear panel but when I look in the trunk I don't see any speakers from underneath. So, what am I missing..

Also... any recommendations for speaker upgrades?

2 Front Tweeters
2 Front Door Speaker
2 Rear Door Tweeters
2 Rear Door Speakers
= 8

Though there are what appear to be the mesh hole pattern for rear deck speakers,
there are none, and none will actually fit; there are no holes in the deck
metal under it to mount them. 9x3s or 6x3s would be ideal, if you could hang
them... Nothing to produce bass can go there...

There is a guy here selling Dynaudio Speakers.

Even my Sport has a decent sounding system, all I need is to put the Fender
subwoofer in, and add rear door tweeters. I ordered a set of Fender speakers
for mine, but it ends up they were not in stock...

See your thread for more info in premium 8 systems. As I said there, you DID NOT
specify your B7 year, and they didn't have amps in older models. Fender was not
available till 2013.

2004 was when the first Volkswagen with a Dynaudio Sound System was presented.
Not sure what model Passat could be ordered with Dynaudio.

In a system without a sub, the front door speakers is where most of the bass is sent.

IF you have an AMP, it should be under the driver seat.
IF you do not have an amp, then you're factory premium 8, with the RCD-510
and a ll it's features.
