First of all can I say a big hello to everyone as I am a new member and this is my first post and as you can probably figure out from the title I have a problem. I have just bought a 2007 tdi golf with the 105 hp engine and when you turn on the ignition error shows on the dashboard display. It has an aftermarket boy racer type air filter fitted and I wondered if this would make a difference? Also if the car is stationary it will not rev over 3000 rpm is his normal or could it be related to the error problem? Any replies /advice would be gratefully received. Many thanks Mel.

What does the MIL look like on the dash? I assume it's a CEL since the engine will not rev over 3000 which is an indicator that it's in limp mode in order to protect the engine. Your next step would be to have the error codes read and post them back here.
How many miles on the car?

Welcome to vwoc.

MIL = Malfunction Indicator Light
That refers to any indicator lights that might illuminate in the dash due to an error.

CEL = Check Engine Light
That is a type of MIL which looks like an engine

our vws do not allow you to rev the engine into the higher rpms if you are not in gear. it's limited by the computer.

i'm not familiar with that engine, however, it seems that a 3k rpm rev-limit would seem perfectly normal.

now, if you can't rev the engine past 3k rpm while getting up to highway speeds, then yes, it is probably in limp mode to keep the engine from damaging itself.

furthermore, if the vehicle seems to be performing properly on the roads, it may just be an emissions component related issue.

give us a little more info.

welcome to the VWOC and good luck...

Can anyone shed any light? Please
Long story short... my turbo pipe disconnected from the intercooler causing power loss and engine management light accompanied by a message saying ERROR on the LCD display where the miles are displayed.
I had the turbo pipe reconnected and I cleared the fault codes so now the engine light has gone and its running fine not showing any codes but this error message is still coming up every time the car is started nd dissapears after 2mins.
Never seen anything like this before any help appreciated.
