So I checked my front springs today (there are no markings above the rear springs) and there are three colored markings: Green Red Red.

I'd really like to know if I have the sport suspension or not. Really just curious, so I understand what I am driving in comparison to other reports I hear from people about the sport suspension.

The Wolfsburg IS the SEL. It was an end-of-line special to clear out all the old SEL models before the next model year came in so they added the extra badge on the front wings and changed the wheels up one size. I was originally going to buy the SEL but I procrastinated just long enough that I ended up with the Wolfsburg instead. In my case, my local dealer did the change - they had a sack full of the Wolfsburg badges and a template to locate them properly on the body panels, and a palette full of the larger wheel/tyre combos. AFAIK VW did a buyback on the smaller wheels so the cost to the dealer was zero.

 

Really, no crap... That is the absolute first I head of that. I was completely under the impression that the Wolfsburg Edition was an SE with a couple extra options thrown in (monster mats, privacy tint, trunk mat, etc.). Thanks for the info.

So ALL SELSs have the sport suspension, and therein, the 2010 WE Tiguan has the sport suspension as well?

 

And one more question... When you say they upped the wheels one size it confuses me a little, because my 2010 WE came with 17s. I doubt there are any SELs that come with 16s.

 

Yeah you might be right there. I think they are 17's, not 18's. In which case it must have just been the style of wheel. The trunk liner, cargo blocks and rubber floormats were all thrown in to 'sweeten' the deal and make it seem more like a special edition. I think the leatherette interior was an option on the SE and it's stock on the Wolfsburg. So they end-of-lined the cloth SEs and all the ones with leatherette became Wolfsburgs.

A lot of car manufacturers do this, especially in Europe. It's common to get end-of-line specials that are assembled at the dealer like this. Motorbike manufacturers do it too. For example the Triumph Tiger SE is basically a Tiger with every bolt-on goodie added as standard.

 

There were no Tiguans in the US with sport suspension AFAIK. This was/is only an option in Canada.

Based on all of the information I could find. Only in 2012 did VW offer a "sport suspension" for the Tiguan SEL model. For all previous years, the suspension for all different trims appear to be the same.
